Saharan Palette by Juvia’s Place- Review, Swatches & Discount

Saharan Palette by Juvia’s Place- Review, Swatches & Discount

It would seem that each and every time I tell myself that I don’t need more makeup, something incredible makes itself known and every fibre of my being yearns for it to be in my hands.

If you’ve been following me since the beginning of this blog, you will know that I am a massive fan of Little Mix and Perrie Edwards is my ultimate style and beauty icon. When their music video for No More Sad Songs was released earlier this year, I was dying to recreate her look, but it became apparent that I didn’t own any kind of red or berry toned eyeshadow- and as a makeup collector, this was a fact that had me shaking in my boots.

Not wanting to overload my makeup drawers anymore, I decided that it wasn’t that necessary to buy a whole new palette and eventually I managed to control myself.

However, last month I accidentally stumbled upon the Juvia’s Place Instagram page and saw their new Saharan palette. Needless to say, I became the heart eyes emoji and instantly bought it- for reasons I am sure you will see as you scroll through this post.

For those who don’t know, Juvia’s Place is a relatively new indie brand who create products that will flatter those with deep skin, all the way through to paler skin.

Their palettes are known for being richly pigmented, buttery soft and colourful, yet completely wearable for day to day. And if you think it can’t get any better than this, just wait until the end when I tell you the price.

The palette contains 12 shadows which seem to be slightly larger than standard size, and is cased in slim and compact cardboard.

Shipping to Australia was fairly standard. I placed my order on the 4th of August and received it on the 23rd for reference.

The brand is also completely cruelty free and to my knowledge, this palette is also vegan which earns it a big thumbs up.

All of Juvia’s packaging is extremely aesthetically pleasing and I especially love how easy this is to find in my drawer thanks to the exceptionally bright coral/pink that makes up the bulk of it.

I have mixed thoughts when it comes to cardboard packaging. On one hand, it is extremely slim and very lightweight which is great for travel, but it obviously isn’t going to be as robust as plastic would be.

However, I will say that this does seem a lot sturdier than the typical cardboard and can’t see it becoming too beat up with everyday use.

The palette is comprised of 4 matte and 8 shimmer/satin/metallic shades. They are all fairly warm in tone which I generally gravitate towards so I get very inspired when I look at it.

 Sokoto- matte, orange toned red

Wodaabe- metallic, olive toned gold

Bororo- deep, metallic burgundy

Kia- deep, metallic navy/teal

Zoya- rose gold satin

Iman- metallic white with lilac/baby blue shift

Jamila- matte orange

Senegal- deep metallic bronze

Chad- intense matte black

Katsina- warm, matte brown

Lulu- metallic peachy pink

Fula- metallic berry pink

When I swatched the shades, I was most impressed.

Every shade felt extremely soft and glided on with no drama at all. Nothing was chalky or powdery, and every shade gave off a very unique finish. As for pigmentation, this is hands down the most richly pigmented selection of shadows I own, many of which are high end and very pricey. From the first swatch, I instantly knew that although this was my first, it will not be my last purchase from Juvia’s Place.

I was so instantly inspired by these shades that I decided to create two looks to show you how versatile this can be.

Warm Cut Crease

When I look at the palette, my eyes are instantly drawn to Sokoto and Jamila (the red and orange). As someone with blue eyes, I love experimenting with orange and warm tones as it really makes them pop.

For this subtle cut crease, I began by using Katsina as my transition shade before popping Jamila in my crease and Sokoto in a ‘haze’ over the top.

I then carved out my lid with the Rimmel match perfection concealer and added Senegal as my main lid colour. I also popped a tiny bit of Wodaabe in the centre of my lids to create extra dimension.

I then took all three matte shades under my eyes and connected it to the upper smoke to create a slight winged shape, before adding the metallics on my lower lash line, Iman in my inner corner and a tiny bit of Chad along my lash line to thicken it.

On the rest of my face, I used:

  • Nars Sheer Glow foundation
  • Rimmel Match Perfection concealer
  • Nars Light Reflecting loose powder
  • Tanya Burr Cosmetics rosy flush cheek palette (bronzer, blush and highlight)
  • MAC brow duo in brunette
  • Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot mascara
  • MAC lipstick in Velvet Teddy

Green Smokey Eye

Another shade that really caught my eye was Kia- the deep teal metallic. I’ve never been brave enough to rock a full on coloured look like this, but I think this shade makes it very easy to wear.

I started by taking Katsina and Jamila through my crease and outer corner and under my eyes for a warm transition. I then just went to town with Kia and took it all over my lid and created a slight winged shape at the outer corner. To add deepness and dimension, I blended a little but of Chad through the outer third of my lid and crease, and popped some Wodaabe in the centre of my lids to enhance the green tone.

I finished by taking all of the shades under my eye in the same order to balance the look, and packed Iman in my inner corner.

My face makeup is the same as above, but I switched my lipstick to MAC’s Blankety to soften it a little.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am extremely impressed with this palette and recommend it to anybody who likes to experiment with bold and unique colours.

On top of this, for this level of quality, the price is absolutely unbeatable. It’s currently being sold on juviasplace.com for only $25USD which is just unreal. This makes the cost per shadow roughly $2.08, and the cost per gram of product $1.38. CRAZY!

And if that isn’t enough for you, use code JUVIAS at checkout for even more money off.

If you have the palette, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below, and if you recreate either of these looks feel free to tag me @claire_ince on Instagram.

Happy shopping 😉
