Hello, and welcome to blogmas 2018!
After the overwhelmingly positive responses I received last year, I’ve decided that it’s only right that I bring you even more festive content; and I cannot wait for you to see what I have in store for you!
Make sure you’re subscribed; you DO NOT want to miss this.
And with that, let the games begin!
Observing my mother (a self-proclaimed Christmas addict) in action every year has provided me with a trick or two that I constantly use to guide my own decorating every year.
Above all else, I have found that evenly dispersing your decorations around the room tends to produce the best outcome; however, if you don’t have a lot, most of the ‘magic’ tends to be lost to everything else in the room.
If you want to take your Christmas decorating to the next level, my biggest tip is to find ways to connect all of your pieces, so that your eyes are always on your decorations, and don’t have to skip over irrelevant, non-glittery decor pieces.
But how do you do this if you’re on a budget?
If your room has a window, there’s a super easy solution.
After spotting this idea on Pinterest, I’ve been ‘dressing’ my bedroom window for several years now. But this year, I decided to kick it up a notch.
Because the window is really the focal point of the room, I feel as though decorating it really helps to tie everything together and adds a tonne of festive magic.
To create this, I’ve used:
Mistletoe Garland- Target
White Bell Wreath- French Market
Mirrored Star- Taylors of Maitland
Reindeer Head- Kmart
Baubles- Christmas World, Warners Bay
In previous years, I simply strung fairy lights across the top of my curtain rod as a starting point.
While this is perfectly acceptable (and very pretty), adding the garland gave the look a bit more of a luxurious feel which I’m a huge fan of.
And I guess a little mistletoe can’t hurt 😉
As a focal point, I chose to hang this handmade bell wreath in the centre of the front curtain rod.
Firstly, adding a larger piece to the centre can be super helpful, in that it gives you something to work from and helps to keep everything else nice and level.
Secondly, I really love the rustic feel of this wreath in particular (which I use year after year) because it makes me feel like I’m living in my very own Pinterest wonderland.
And lastly, this year I collected a bunch of more ‘special’ ornaments which I staggered across the window with fishing line.
This is a really simple trick that can take the room from 0 to 100 in a matter of minutes, and if you shop smart, it can be done for under $10.
TIP: If you still want to be able to close your curtains, hang the ornaments from the fairy lights rather than the curtain rod.
As for the placement, there’s an infinite number of ways you can go about this.
I personally like a bit more of an ‘undone’ look, so I avoid too much symmetry and instead opt for ‘organised chaos’
The placement can really make or break the room, but the good news is that it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
And hey presto! Your room has been transformed.
If you recreate this, pretty please spam me with pictures on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook (links below) so I can cry glittery tears of happiness.
Stay tuned, my lovelies- we’re just warming up.
Until Tuesday 😉
Not too bad☺️
