Just before I finished primary school, I decided to cut my hair into a bob. It wasn’t until the middle stages of high school that I began to regret this decision, and desperately wanted my long hair back.
This was around the time that clip in hair extensions were ALL THE RAGE at my school, and I wanted them desperately. But at the time, they were incredibly overpriced and I also had a hair colour that was virtually unmatchable- so instead, I started taking better care of my hair and just grew it out myself.
After I left high school, I struggled a lot with finding my personal style. Suddenly not having to wear a uniform every day meant that I actually had to put thought into what I wanted to wear every day, and I quickly ran out of ideas. I scoured Pinterest on the daily, and looked to some of my favourite celebrities for inspiration. Even chopped my hair off for the second time.
In particular, Little Mix provided me with quite a few of my style queues (they still do), particularly when it came to hair. Theirs was constantly changing colour, length and style but one thing was always certain- it was thick, voluminous and overwhelmingly healthy looking.
I remember the day when they announced that Hair Rehab London was their extension brand of choice. I was straight onto my computer ready to buy them at that very moment- I mean hey, if Little Mix can perform as many hair flips as they do on stage without sending wefts flying across the room… that’s a pretty good selling point for me. However, much to my dismay, they were rather pricey (*cough* 164 British Pounds *cough*).
It took me a whole year of consideration to finally take the plunge and purchase some for myself (during a sale of course, because your girl is SAVVY) but I am so glad that I did.
And here’s why.
What you get
I opted for the brands most luxurious choice- the “Luxe Volume Clip Ins”- as my hair is quite thick, meaning I need as much volume at the ends as possible to achieve the best blend.
This set comes with a whopping 180g of hair- aka, A LOT. I also opted for human hair over synthetic, as this allows me to heat style and wash them with no issues.
For reference, I chose the colour “Coachella Blonde” in the 18 inch length.
NOTE: They’ve just launched an even larger pack of hair which they call the “Ultimate Volume Clip In Extensions” which are 24 inches long and weigh 280g. They may or may not be on my wish list at this very moment.
The luxe volume set comes with:
1 x 4 clip weft
2 x 3 clip wefts
2 x 2 clip wefts
and 4 x single clip wefts
This variation allows you to custom fit them to your head, and makes them totally customisable depending on the look you’re going for.
Each weft is also double drawn, meaning that double the amount of hair is sewn onto each weft. This means that if you don’t particularly want to wear every single one (which I rarely do), you can still get away with it, and the ends will never look too fine or stringy.
I find the clips on these to be VERY secure and have never had any issues with them sliding down my hair. If you do, there is an easy solution- simply do some light backcombing in the section of hair that you want to clip.
Quality
As soon as I opened the package, I was overwhelmed at the level of quality you get out of these.
The colour was completely spot on and VERY multi-tonal which I was super impressed with. No chunky highlights, no harsh lines.
I consider my hair to be in pretty great condition, as I do take extra time to take good care of it. But these extensions were at least DOUBLE as soft as my own hair.
But the real test was in the way they washed- usually, washing them for the first time depletes a bit of the quality, but in this case, there was absolutely no change which really blew me away.
NOTE: The texture of extensions may vary slightly. If I comb through mine while they’re wet and leave them, they dry pin straight. If I scrunch them lightly, they dry with the texture you see above.
Results
My natural hair is quite fine in texture, but there’s A LOT of it, so it balances out to being medium-thick.
I also tend to have it cut all in one length with blunt edges and not very many layers, meaning that no matter which extensions I use, it won’t be a walk in the park to blend.
But as you can see here (and in the remainder of the images in this post), achieving a perfect blend is VERY doable with these.
For me, they’re the perfect length (I’m 5ft 5′ for reference) and are thick enough that you can’t see where my natural hair ends, but not so thick that they’re heavy or look unnatural.
I’ve created infinite looks with these, and there’s something about them that makes me feel like an actual princess.
If you’re considering picking up your own set, I highly recommend you do so. The customer service was excellent (I received them within about a week), they are of EXTREMELY high quality, and they have a complimentary colour matching service- it’s really that easy.
Happy shopping!
Claire 😉
