Throughout late November and early December, my entire house is covered in all things Christmas.
As a little girl I would look forward to putting up our Christmas tree every year and watch in admiration as my mother decorated our entire house.
As I’ve gotten older and my tastes have changed, my bedroom decor has matured quite a lot and at this point in time, everything in my room is white and cream, with accents of copper and gold. Last Christmas, I decided to decorate my room with a theme separate to the rest of our house, and stuck with metallic decorations in copper and gold to match my room decor.
This year, I decided to amp it up a few levels by adding some greenery and a splash of red through my bedding which I actually made myself.
Around four years ago, my mother and I discovered an incredible Christmas shop in Tuggerah- a town in Northern New South Wales, Australia. It’s quite far away from where we are, but we’ve made at least one trip there each and every year to see what new things they have in stock. I believe they also have an ebay store but don’t quote me on that.
This year, I decided to take the plunge and buy myself a nice Christmas tree. I’d had small ones on my desk before, but I thought it would be nice to invest in a larger, good quality tree which I can use while I’m still living at home, and take with me when I move out.
I searched high and low for the perfect tree and I just wasn’t impressed by many of them, as most were either very sparse, extremely scratchy and prickly, fragile or insanely expensive.
This tree gave me department store (potentially higher) quality for a much better price- it’s a 4ft ‘majestic pine’ and set me back $114. However, I do recognise that this price will still be far too high for many people. But don’t forget, there are so many options out there when it comes to trees, you just have to find one in the style that you like for whatever price that you are willing to pay.
As I didn’t have a great deal of room to put a tree on the floor, I opted for a slightly shorter one that I could easily elevate to help it fill the space without it looking strangely small, whilst not taking up an abundance of room which would make my space impractical.
As you can see here and in some of the later pictures, I simply took a large cardboard box and covered it with a layer of red crepe paper, followed by cellophane, white ribbon, and a large glittery gold bow to tie everything together. This not only serves as elevation, but I feel as though it adds that extra something to the room and ties together the splashes of red with my golden luxe theme.
While I was there, I also picked up all of the decorations as the prices were very low while the quality is very high.
First, I opted for two packs of champagne-gold baubles in glittery, matte and glossy finishes. I also bought them in two different sizes to add some dimension and a slightly more rustic feel.
Each pack was $4.50.
I’m not entirely sure what shape these are supposed to be, but I thought they were quite unique and I absolutely love the colour as in person they’re slightly bronze and give off a lovely glow.
As you can see, these were $3.50.
To tie together the white backdrop of the room, I picked up three of these bad boys which are super cute and extremely glittery. My Mum (aka Christmas decorator extraordinaire) says that you should always buy an odd number of each decoration which is why I went for three.
These were $2.85 each.
Little birds for the Christmas tree have been a trend for the last two years and I absolutely love them as the feathers add softness to the tree and bring a little more personality. Plus they’re super cute!
Tiffany (obviously she has a name) was $6.50.
And finally, what’s a Christmas tree without a star or an angel right?
I opted for a classic glittery star which for whatever reason looks quite silver in pictures but is more of that champagne gold in a slightly cooler tone which I think is nice and subtle.
And to boot, it was only $3.00!
Since this trip I have actually purchased a new star as I wasn’t overly happy with the way this one sat on my tree, but this star will be used in another part of my room. Stay tuned for a room tour later in the month.
After assembling and fluffing the tree to make it look nice and full (didn’t have to do much work here as this tree is so incredibly dense), I added the fairy lights.
I feel like you’re either a multi-coloured, warm or cool light person and I’m definitely a lover of warm lights as they go quite well with my colour scheme and just fit my aesthetic to a T.
I used a string of 300 warm lights and had quite a bit left over so I basically strung the remainder over the top of my window for a bit of pizazz.
There really wasn’t much rhyme or reason to the way I decorated, I kind of just mapped out the placement of the special ornaments and worked around that, making sure there weren’t any major empty spaces.
This project cost me under $150 for the tree itself and all of the decorations you see here, and I think if I had have gone anywhere else, it would have costed me at least double that amount.
I still have a number of decorations for this tree tucked away in boxes which I will be adding to add even more wow factor, but I wanted to show you that you really don’t need to go out to a department store and spend $300 on the most intricate baubles to create the look you want. If you shop around and look in places you never would have thought, you will find everything you need and more.
See you in a couple of days for more exciting Blogmas fun 😉
