Inspiration: Lou Teasdale

Lou Teasdale is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to beauty and fashion. She is able to effortlessly push the boundaries of style, and still manages to look timeless and classic- something I aspire to be able to do.

So I decided to recreate a version of her classic look and wear it out for the day.

And this is how it turned out:

I ended up falling in LOVE with this look and want to wear it every day of my life, so I decided to do a little tutorial. I am by no means an expert at this though, so bear with me!

  1. The first thing I did was exfoliate and moisturise my skin as I find this particular foundation sits better when I do this. If you would like to see a skincare routine, do let me know.

Foundation edited

2. I then used my FAVE Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in the colour Light 4, Deauville. Lou tends to go for quite a natural finish when it comes to foundation, and this really gives you that effortlessly flawless look.

This was applied with a Real Techniques expert face brush to give an airbrushed finish.

Brows3. I then filled in my eyebrows with the MAC brows (pencil) in Fling. My brows are naturally quite lightly coloured and straight so I tried my best to lift the arch and define them nicely like Lou does, then brushed them out with an Australis brow/lash comb.

Eyeshadow edited

4. For the eyes, Lou tends to change up her eyeshadow quite a lot, but most of the time she seems to go for cool tones and lots of liner.

To create the eyeshadow look, I used Tanya Burr’s Fairytale eye palette which I love for every day, but the darker colours are also really great for amping up your look.

I started with cream tea all over the lid and onto the inner corner with a Zoeva 227 Luxe Soft Definer brush and really built up the colour.

I then used a bit of velvet cushion through the crease on the same brush and blended it quite a bit, and again kept building up the colour to define my eyes and bring a bit of warmth.

On the Zoeva 231 Luxe Petit Crease brush, I took alohomora along the top lash line in a thick band and created a winged shape (hopefully this will make sense in the photo at the end), then blended and continued to build up the colour. On the same brush, I also ran a combination of velvet cushion and alohomora along the bottom lash line.

And finally, I took witches cat (any matte black will do) on the Zoeva 317 Wing Liner brush and added a tiny bit to the lash line and along the bottom of the wing, then blended with my finger to add a bit of extra drama and definition. I also took a tiny bit on the outer corners of my lower lash line.

Lashes

5. Next came the all important lashes and liner- this is where the look really transforms.

First, I used the Esteé Lauder Pure Colour Intense Kajal Eyeliner to tight line- which can be a little tricky. I then used it on the outer half of my waterline and a tiny bit on the upper lash line to add some extra volume.

For mascara, Lou tends to go quite heavy to create her signature “spider lashes”, so I really went for it! I used a new combination that I got as a sample from Esteé Lauder- their Lash Primer Plus, with the classic Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara over the top. I felt that my lashes looked incredible and really full, but I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with oily eyelids as it does smudge a little.

Concealer

6. I then lightly concealed under my eyes, around my nose and on any spots with the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer (ivory) and blended with the Zoeva 142 Concealer Buffer.

Powder

7. To set everything in place I used the Rimmel Silky Loose Face Powder (translucent) on the Napoleon Perdis s25 Finishing Powder Brush. As Lou goes for the natural glow, I chose this powder as it has a semi matte, almost ‘satin’ finish, but is still great at keeping you oil free throughout the day.

Contour

8. To contour, I use a technique that’s probably wrong, but I find it works really well for my face shape. I take the matte contour shade from the Sleek Face Form palette in Medium on the tip of the Zoeva 106 powder brush and sweep the product in an upward motion from under my cheekbones. I also put a little on my temples and under my jaw. Hopefully that made sense, but if you have any questions, leave them below.

Note: the contour shade I use from this palette is the same one that’s in the Sleek contour kit in medium.

Highlight

9. And now for one of my favourite parts of makeup- highlighting!

For this I used the epitome of highlighters that I cannot be without- the MAC mineralise skin finish in Soft and Gentle on a Zoeva 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek. I put this on the tops of my cheekbones, brow bone, inner corners of my eyes, and on my cupids bow.

Lips

10. And the last step- lips.

For the lips, I followed the inspiration picture and used a classic orangey red- the Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick in the colour 140-Kiss me. I’ve had this for quite a while so I’m hoping it’s still available but if not, it’s quite similar to MAC’s Lady Danger in tone.

I applied it with a lip brush, then blotted with a tissue and repeated this twice- my secret to getting bold lipstick to last all day long.

Just to be somewhat helpful, I’m also including pictures of what the makeup looked like at the end of the day so you can see how the products wear. This was after about 10 hours with no touch ups. The foundation got a little patchy (it was a 32 degree day) but everything else stood up relatively well considering the heat.

As for the hair, I didn’t do anything too special but I figured I should include it anyway as I tend to get a lot of questions from people whenever I do this.

Hair Edited

(Again, this was at the end of the day so the curls were a lot more relaxed)

Basically, all I do is brush through the hair, and do some loose curls with my hair straightener (any will do), making sure they are all facing away from my face. I then let them cool down before tipping my head upside down and shaking it around pretty aggressively to break them up- I never brush them out or run my fingers through. Most of the time that’s it, but if I want a bit more texture, I’ll take some of the Fudge Skyscraper Medium Hold Hairspray and spray it upward INTO the ends of my hair while my head is still upside down, then flip it back over and shake it out a bit.

If you have any further questions about the look, leave them below and I’ll be sure to answer them.
